What IS a garden centre?
Since the inception of garden centres in the 1960s, the term ‘garden centre’ has come to mean anywhere that sells items for the garden. Today Britain has a wide variety of outlets claiming to be garden centres but many not living up to the standards of modern specialist retail that our customers expect. In short garden centres are often perceived to be inferior to ‘true specialists’. Try telling our plant team that – they won’t be happy. Ferndale is a true specialist garden retailer with added department to compliment the garden ranges.
The changes from our opening in July 1982 have been immense and have grown with customer expectations. We sell more garden and house plants than ever before in a wider range and offer as many new varieties as possible as they become available. We have such a good relationship with our growers that we always have new many introductions before the annual launch pad that is the Chelsea flower show. The big difference from 1982 to now is that running an independent family run garden centre has much higher overheads than ever before and being busy 12 months of the year is the only way to make sure we an employee our specialist garden advisers to be here when you want them from spring onward. We offer a 5 year guarantee on our hardy garden plants intended for growing in your garden soil. We can do this because we buy from the best growers in the UK and the support of some European suppliers. When you buy our great plants it means they thrive when you follow our planting and care instructions.
We love gardens and are passionate about plants.
We we recruit new team members we look for great personalities, a love of plants and gardens and a desire to show you how to create the beauty you are looking for. This also applies to our indoor teams too. We might not insist on the knowledge or desire to learn about plants and gardens but they must like people and love to help.
